NW London Points of Note
Cricklewood is an ancient settlement dating back almost 1000 years. The name Cricklewood was derived from crooked wood as the areas was covered in uneven woodland and was the meeting point of 5 small rivers. Hampstead Garden Suburb was founded in 1907 by a Henrietta and Canon Barnett who sought for a way to preserve the Heath area which led to the idea which imposed restrictions on urban development, protecting each garden in the suburb of Hampstead as it were. Some very interesting people have lived in the North West of the city. Mark Twain lived in Dollis Hill, as did William Gladstone. Of course the Beatles famously recorded their Abbey Road Album in St Johns Wood.
